FAQ
- Q: there is nothing but the title of the book and the first sentence!
- A: that is correct. this is precisely what we want. ISBN, amazon link, publisher, year — not interesting for this project. you can find those easily on the net.
- Q: what about adding the last sentence?
- A: yes, been thinking about it. ..but, i just don't know. there is something spoiler-like in those.. imagine going to these pages to look for the last sentence of a favourite book of yours, and bang, you just skimmed over another one — which you haven't read yet. could very well ruin that book entirely. so no, i won't do it.
- Q: i can't register myself, what's wrong?!
- A: the login name must be a WikiName∞. this is becasue the login name becomes a page itself also (the user's homepage). it doesn't have to be used in later logins, e.g. use MyWikiName when registering and mywikiname when logging in.
- Q: parts of the text i submitted change into links! when i click there, it asks me to create the page.
- A: this is because the text contains CamelCase∞ words. to prevent the wiki to change these into links, put them inside double-double quotes: ""CamelCase"".
- Q: i have just made a link to an author but it's not working, it becomes garbage.
- A: links cannot contain special characters. e.g.instead of
[[BrontëEmily Brontë, Emily]] one must use:
[[BronteEmily Brontë, Emily]]
- Q: somebody's owning the page of my favourite author!
- A: there is no point in owning pages (except the user's “homepage”) but please note that ownership is automatically assigned to the creator of the page. but ownership means really nothing. everybody is free to edit any of your (or my) pages, welcome to the wiki world (if you are having problems editing a page, because someone locked it, let me know).
- Q: i would like to leave a comment
- A: i have disabled comments for this wiki, i don't see the point of it. if you really think you need to tell me something, write to minusf (at) gmail.com∞
- Q: what is the silly ∞ sign?
- A: anything you want it to be ;-) it marks links which go outside this site. a piece of chain, hence “link”.
- Q: what a waste of time!
- A: absolutely.
- Q: no, really, why are you doing this?
- A: do you have a favourite movie? poem? book? what do you feel when you read/hear the first words of something you really love? this is a repository of those feelings.
